A great food company such as Volhard Dog Nutrition looks at the dog holistically - not just nutrition out of context.

 

That means reviewing clinical testing results (blood, feces and urine) from dogs being fed Volhard over the last 50 years to be absolutely sure that the dog is receiving nutrients in a manner that is appropriate.

 

It also means broadening the clinical testing on Volhard fed dogs to include reviewing annual health profiles, hair tissue mineral analysis testing, microbiome testing and getting feedback from a multitude of different breeders with generations of Volhard dogs.

 

The experience it takes to create a holistic food such as this can only happen by a dog person who understands the behavior of dogs and has been in the dog training, breeding and nutrition business for decades.

Our Mission

Our mission as nutritional consultants is to enable dogs to thrive not just survive. We accomplish this by providing a nutritional solution that is biologically appropriate, natural, healthy and balanced. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of quality assurance through rigorous assay testing. This ensures that we consistently deliver superior products every day.

Our Owners

Our owners, Brian and Lisa Berg, bring the greatest ethics, knowledge, and excellence to Volhard Dog Nutrition. Upon retirement from their 25 years in law enforcement, during which Brian was a K9 handler and unit supervisor for 10 years, they started K9 Basics Dog Training in Marlton, NJ.  Located on 24 acres, they developed a very successful professional dog training business, which then grew to include a dog boarding and daycare division as well as a nonprofit, Semper Fido, Inc., which rescues dogs and trains them as service dogs for veterans with PTSD.  Responsible for training and caring for thousands of dogs, they proudly celebrated 20 years in business in 2023.

We are not new to this by any means. Our staff is very impressive in their experience and knowledge in this area of dog training. Our Training Director, Arnold Apel, has considerable experience from his military background in the United States Marine Corps, as a Military Police K9 handler.

 

He has worked and trained dogs both stateside and overseas. Owner, Brian Berg, was the Supervising Officer and a handler for the police K9 unit for 10 years, and had multiple real-life apprehensions. Our staff takes great pride in producing excellent dogs; their knowledge,decoy work, and ability to problem solve is extraordinary.

 

This is proven experience and professionalism with appropriate techniques.

We challenge ourselves as a company to remain open minded by learning, growing and exploring new ideas as the need presents itself. We do this by understanding the science, the building blocks and the chemistry behind an unprocessed diet and a dog's anatomy and physiology. Then we share that knowledge with you!
