Build a Bowl

Every dog is special. But it’s not just their personality. Every dog has unique nutrition needs based on their breed, size, shape, activity level and many other factors. The best way to help your dog be the best version of themselves is to build a healthy, balanced bowl that’s a combination of grains, vegetables, proteins, hydrators and supplements that are specific to your pet.

When you build a bowl here at Volhard, you will start with the choice of foundation mix. For better planning, it’s helpful to think about the dog you plan to feed and their issues first. This is where you can determine the "personality" of your bowl.

Build-a-Bowl is a fun way to find out what the nutritional value is in a bowl of Volhard! Then you will be asked to add a protein for a delectable super-powered meal for your dog!

RESCUE must be stored in the fridge or freezer and is good for 6 months after opening.

The Transition

Add a small amount of RESCUE and meat to the kibble you are feeding your dog now and mix with water. As the week progresses, gradually increase the amount of RESCUE, meat, and water, at the same decreasing the kibble by a corresponding amount, until you have phased out the kibble. (If you are feeding the same meat protein for six days, you may want to feed another protein - canned mackerel or cottage cheese - on the seventh day.) At the end of the transition period, weigh your dog. Weigh them again after four weeks. Increase or decrease the amount you feed accordingly.

Recommended Protein: 80/20 beef.

My dog has an ongoing issue with ear infections and I have had him on Rescue for a month. His ears have cleared up and he is not licking at his paws. Highly recommend!

    Volhard rescue diet

Posted by julie mineo on May 15th 2023

My fifty-pound boxer/pit/mix girl Rigby was having severe digestive problems. I finally found Volhard Rescue mix that I add my own gently cooked ground beef and or ground pork. It has really helped heal my girl Rigby. She has been on it for about two years and is so healthy and happy for her 10 years. I had tried a few other specialty dog diets before I found Volhard Rescue. I could not be happier with the results. And she LOVES it!

Thank goodness we found this dog food. We have tried several different diets and not one helped with our dog's allergies. After using RESCUE dog food for about a year, we are still happy with the results - no allergies!! THANKS to RESCUE!!!

    Awesome food

Posted by Cherie on Jan 4th 2023

Long story English Labrador Retriever has food intolerance and allergies as well. I have been searching high and low to find dog foods that did not contain the ingredients that he has an intolerance to. I was super happy to find Rescue Diet that was safe for my dog. He absolutely loves it and I have noticed the itchiness has decreased as well and hopefully in time...I can wean him off of his medication. It is well worth the price to have a happy dog at last and it takes the guesswork away to figure out how to balance his meal since I was cooking for him for the last several months. Thank you Volhard!!

    Awesome- so glad we switched!

Posted by HC on Dec 1st 2022

Our puppy has a sensitive stomach. We switched him over from a very high-quality kibble to the Volhard Rescue diet. He has not had a stomach upset since! He loves the food, it smells fantastic. We cook the hamburger to add to it, we do not feed it raw. Highly recommend this food, it is honestly a good bang for the buck. As far as I can tell it is working out almost the same cost-wise as feeding the kibble we used to feed. If you do not have time to cook from scratch for your dog, this is the next best thing!
