Build a Bowl

Every dog is special. But it’s not just their personality. Every dog has unique nutrition needs based on their breed, size, shape, activity level and many other factors. The best way to help your dog be the best version of themselves is to build a healthy, balanced bowl that’s a combination of grains, vegetables, proteins, hydrators and supplements that are specific to your pet.

When you build a bowl here at Volhard, you will start with the choice of foundation mix. For better planning, it’s helpful to think about the dog you plan to feed and their issues first. This is where you can determine the "personality" of your bowl.

Build-a-Bowl is a fun way to find out what the nutritional value is in a bowl of Volhard! Then you will be asked to add a protein for a delectable super-powered meal for your dog!

WEIGH YOUR PUPPY WEEKLY AND ADJUST THE FOOD ACCORDING TO THE NEW WEIGHT

NDF2 can be stored unopened in a cool dry place for up to 1 year. After opening,

NDF2 must be stored in the fridge or freezer and is good for 6 months after opening.

The Transition

Add a small amount of NDF2 and protein to the current diet you are feeding your dog now and mix with water. As the week progresses, gradually increase the amount of NDF2, protein, and water, at the same time decreasing the current diet by a corresponding amount, until you have phased out the current diet. (If you are feeding the same protein for six days, you may want to feed another protein - canned mackerel or cottage cheese - on the seventh day.) At the end of the transition period, weigh your dog. Weigh them again after four weeks. Increase or decrease the amount you feed accordingly.

Recommended Protein: 80/20 beef.

Absolute best diet on the market....saved my french bulldog!

Posted by Jennifer on Apr 3rd 2020

I never give reviews but this food has been a lifesaver for my French Bulldog so I feel absolutely obligated to share my story. He has had dietary issues since the day we brought him home about a year ago. We went to multiple vets and tried everything. They stuffed him full of chicken/rice/pumpkin, antibiotics, probiotics, etc. you name it we have tried it. The poor dog had loose stools for the first 8 months of his life, ended up in the Pet ER, refused to drink water for the first week-a nightmare basically. I finally changed to a great vet who believed it was entirely diet related, stopped giving him medication and put him on a strict prescription hydrolyzed vegetarian kibble. It worked perfectly and solved the problem. However, I do not believe in a diet without meat and I am a firm believer in raw diets if they work. Soon after our dog also decided he did not want to eat white cardboard looking and tasting kibbles. He just refused to eat. So now we were faced with another problem. Through our own tests at home it became clear that our dog is allergic to chicken and turkey, basically all birds, looking back everything the original vets were stuffing him with was making him more sick. We found that raw beef was great for him but obviously I needed something to substitute the meat with. I tried mixing his kibbles (that worked for about a week until he started eating the meat and spitting out the cardboard kibbles). The meat alone created digestive problems again. I knew I needed a healthy food to mix with the raw meat but did not know what that was! I happened to watch a YouTube video from Cheri Lucas and saw a link to the Volhard website, it was a miracle! We started this food about a month ago, the moment it arrived I fed him dinner. For the first time ever he was excited to eat his food, he licked the bowl clean, he was actually looking for more! Never in the prior year had he done that. The switch to 80/20 beef was also a huge success and I believe so much easier for him to digest. Since the first NDF2 meal, ALL of his poops have been normal! Not too many, not too loose, not too much straining. Perfect mixture, perfect balance, absolute life saver and my poor little Frenchie finally looks happy and acts like a normal dog! I really feel like finding this food was a blessing. It has been a learning experience to say the least and I thank you for your customer service on the phone and for this food! I feel thankful that my dog no longer has digestive issues. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Volhard! Jenn and Blugatti, the blue pied Frenchie in California

Best dog diet you can find!

Posted by Aubri Gibb on Mar 24th 2020

As someone who has always been taught that “you are what you eat” and who knows the HUGE influence your diet has on your overall health, I have always tried to feed my dogs the very best (and usually very pricey) dog foods on the market. My 2 year old Puggle, Ramen, is a relatively picky eater and has grown to only eat wet/canned food (spoiled, I know) and so I had been feeding him the expensive, “vet recommended” brands like Blue Buffalo and Hills since I got him as an 8 week old puppy. I thought that it was worth it to spend a little more for my little guy to be as healthy as possible and thought that the extra money spent on his food would eventually be saved in vet bills and other health complications down the road. However, despite my best efforts, Ramen slowly began to have various health issues that would repeatedly land us in the vet’s office. He would become very itchy and scratch himself until he was raw and bleeding and had lost his face hair. Additionally, he also developed some anal gland and digestive issues. I became SO FRUSTRATED because I thought I had been doing everything right— feeding him the “best” food, plenty of exercise, all his vaccinations, checkups, and preventative care— yet he was becoming itchy and miserable and his coat looked awful at only 2 years old! So I continued going to the vet and trying anything I could find to try and help him feel better, finding no long-term solution. Then, a friend of mine told me about Volhard and how well it was working for his new dog and I realized that I had tried everything to help Ramen... EXCEPT CHANGE HIS DIET. I had not considered this because at the time I thought I was already feeling him the best dog food on the market and I will admit that I was very skeptical of all “raw” or “natural” diets that seem to have become a recent trend for dog owners. But then I went to the Volhard website, read their ingredients, and became interested but not quite convinced. I spent about 2 weeks researching everything I could about dog nutrition from scientific journal articles and studies and decided to give the Volhard NDF2 a try. I could not be happier that I made the switch. Ramen’s skin and coat began to improve almost immediately and he no longer has any digestive issues. He absolutely loves the taste and texture of it!! I recently got a new puppy and have been feeding him Volhard NDF2 from day 1 (since he was about 7.5 weeks old!) He loves it and is also a very healthy, growing pup.

    Successful transition

Posted by Olivia McKellar on Mar 3rd 2020

For many years twice daily I provided freshly chopped broccoli and carrots and a protein for my lab, Charlie. We switched to Volhard dog food - it was easy, Charlie loves it, and had an excellent checkup. And no more chopping broccoli and carrots!

    Moving on

After using Rescue for weeks, we moved on to NDF2 in treating chronic diarrhea for Trevi, an 11 month old Golden Retriever, who could not tolerate processed kibble. All seems to be going well. Resolving the situation with the help of Jennifer Carter's patience and guidance. Thank you for the products and professional assistance.

After learning about NDF2 from our trainer, Jen Freilich, I was very excited to start our 3mo puppy on it! I followed the directions for switching her from the kibble to the NDF2 & had no tummy issues at all! She's now almost 7 months, thriving, & at last check 61 lbs!! So happy to help her live a long healthy life with proper nutrition!
