Build a Bowl

Every dog is special. But it’s not just their personality. Every dog has unique nutrition needs based on their breed, size, shape, activity level and many other factors. The best way to help your dog be the best version of themselves is to build a healthy, balanced bowl that’s a combination of grains, vegetables, proteins, hydrators and supplements that are specific to your pet.

When you build a bowl here at Volhard, you will start with the choice of foundation mix. For better planning, it’s helpful to think about the dog you plan to feed and their issues first. This is where you can determine the "personality" of your bowl.

Build-a-Bowl is a fun way to find out what the nutritional value is in a bowl of Volhard! Then you will be asked to add a protein for a delectable super-powered meal for your dog!

NDF2 can be stored unopened in a cool dry place for up to 1 year. After opening,

NDF2 must be stored in the fridge or freezer and is good for 6 months after opening.

The Transition

Add a small amount of NDF2 and meat to the kibble you are feeding your dog now and mix with water. As the week progresses, gradually increase the amount of NDF2, meat, and water, at the same decreasing the kibble by a corresponding amount, until you have phased out the kibble. (If you are feeding the same meat protein for six days, you may want to feed another protein - canned mackerel or cottage cheese - on the seventh day.) At the end of the transition period, weigh your dog. Weigh them again after four weeks. Increase or decrease the amount you feed accordingly.

Recommended Protein: 80/20 beef.

Wish I had found this years ago!

Posted by Mariel K on Jan 5th 2023

I could not be happier to have found Volhard for my 6-year-old Labrador. I was spending hundreds of dollars every month and nonstop trips to the vet due to her allergies, but Volhard and raw have completely changed her quality of life. Her fur is soft again, and she does not itch or get nearly as many ear infections. I would much rather spend my $ on this food that she LOVES to eat than go to the vet for allergy shots that barely helped her. The cost and prep for raw feeding always intimidated me, but thanks to Aimee at Chalk Pond Retrievers, I saw just how easy it is to do. Now I truly enjoy finding fresh 'add-ons' like fruits and veggies to put on top too! The bottom line is if you are considering it, this is your sign to try it.

    Foundation Diet 2

Posted by Renee' Miller on Dec 31st 2022

We have been on the Volhard diet now for about a year. Our two Pitbulls are very picky eaters. They love this formula. It is not too hard to feed. We travel quite a bit with our dogs and it is doable on the road. We have noticed such a difference in their energy levels and their coats look fantastic! No one can believe the energy our 14-year-old dog has. He plays like a puppy!

    Success!!

Posted by Tom E. on Dec 27th 2022

We have been raw feeders for some time but always worried about the dogs having the properly balanced meals. We were also spending "LOTS" of time prepping their food. Two big dogs require an investment of time to prep and store their food. With NDF it is so easy, and we feel confident they are getting the proper nutrition. Plus, the dogs love this food which is a huge thumbs up!!

    The very best food

Posted by Laurie Silberfeld on Dec 22nd 2022

I took the advice of Aimee Heath and switched my 2-year-old Lab to Volhard earlier this year. Best move ever. He loves the food and he is doing great on it. Knowing the quality ingredients that make up NDF2 and being able to ensure I am adding high-quality ground meat and veggies to it is very comforting. I cannot recommend it enough!

We have tried to feed our dogs as best as we can, but the recommendation to use Volhard has been truly amazing. Our dogs are doing better than ever and we are so happy that we can give them good food that is nourishing them and helping them be their best healthy selves.

    3 Happy Herding Mixes!

Posted by Emily on May 24th 2022

I am so happy that I switched to NDF2 with my 3 dogs. They were eating high-quality kibble before but after switching to NDF2 and 80/20 raw ground beef I noticed them having more energy and looking a little leaner. My dog is usually very yeasty and has also not had any issues with that since we switched. Can't wait to see how the positive changes continue as we stay on this!

    NDF2 Pork

Posted by KATHY DILISIO on Feb 3rd 2022

Our 3 1/2 year old Cavalier has been on Volhard NDF2 for 2 1/2 years now. She loves the pork and is thriving on the food. Very easy to prepare with raw 80/20 beef. I started her out on regular dog food which she did not like, had to hand feed her. She also did not really like the Volhard chicken however once we switched to Volhard pork she now barks for her food and can't wait to eat. Vet has even ask what we feed her. Her coat is soft and silky and overall very healthy.
