NDF2 is a dehydrated foundation mix developed by Wendy Volhard which allows you to add your own protein to provide your dog with a fresh, healthy and balanced diet. NDF2 is crafted in small batches with whole food ingredients and herbs to support the liver, kidney, heart, lungs, stomach and digestive tract.

The Natural Diet recipe has been clinically tested on different breeds, sizes, and ages of dogs in different regional locations for over 40 years and has improved the health, vitality, and longevity of dogs.

The Volhard Dog Nutrition Natural Diet Foundation 2 (NDF2) was formulated to exceed the nutritional levels established by the NRC and AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for All Life Stages, including the growth of large size dogs.

Why would I change liver flavors?

Besides providing a taste diversity, you can now provide your dog a wider range of nourishment. The liver is a nutrient-rich organ that most dogs love eating.

nutrients-05-600.png
Apart from being very tasty, the added liver will provide them a lot of benefits and keep them in shape. Your dog’s liver performs thousands of vital functions in the body. So it’s important to support the liver itself.
You can boost liver health by feeding your dog liver.

In various types of natural medicine principles … including Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, it is said that feeding a specific organ benefits that organ.

There's a difference in the fats, too. Chicken livers have about 30% more total fat than beef liver. And like chicken meat generally, chicken livers are higher in polyunsaturated fats than beef liver.

1 - 2 - 3 Easy Feeding Guidelines

Each dog is an individual with different lifestyles and metabolisms. The following are only guidelines. Before starting the NDF2 diet, weigh your dog. The amounts listed are for dogs that get about 2 hours of exercise per day. If your dog starts to gain weight, reduce the amounts equally. If your dog starts to lose weight, increase the amounts equally. Feed this new amount for one week and then weigh your dog again. Adjust according to your dog's healthy weight.

Feeding Puppies

(7 weeks to 7 months through teething)

When the puppy is finished teething, reduce feeding to three times a day and decrease the amount slightly so the dog maintains a healthy weight. Around 6 to 7 months, reduce to two feedings following the guidelines for the weight of your dog.

Step 1:
Weigh your puppy.

Step 2:
Double the amount of food designated for your puppy’s weight.
Example: Puppy weighs 12 lbs - feed for a 25 lb dog.

Step 3:
Feed the amount of food calculated in Step 2, four times a day.
Example: Puppy should be fed for a 25 lb dog which is 1⁄3 cup NDF2, 1⁄3 cup protein and 2⁄3 cup water. This equals 1 feeding.

Step 4:
Feed the 1 feeding amount identified in Step 3, four times a day; one meal at 8 am, one at noon, one at 4 pm and the last at 8 pm.
Example: Daily amount equals 1 cup NDF2, 1 cup protein and 2 cups water.

Step 5:
Weigh your dog weekly to see change and/or weight gain. Gradually increase the amount you feed as your puppy grows.
Example: Puppy’s weight increased to 20 lbs from 12 lbs at the start. You will now feed for a 40 lb dog. Follow steps above.

The Transition

how-to-change-dog-food.jpgAdd a small amount of NDF2 and meat to the kibble you are feeding your dog now and mix with water. As the week progresses, gradually increase the amount of NDF2, meat, and water, at the same decreasing the kibble by a corresponding amount, until you have phased out the kibble. (If you are feeding the same meat protein for six days, you may want to feed another protein - canned mackerel or cottage cheese - on the seventh day.) At the end of the transition period, weigh your dog. Weigh him again after four weeks. Increase or decrease the amount you feed accordingly.

Recommended Protein: 80/20 beef.

NDF2 is a dehydrated product. A 5-lb bag of NDF2 has 16 1-cup servings in the bag and will feed a 30lb. dog (according to the instructions on the bag) for 30 days.

Each ingredient is tested when it enters the facility for E. Coli, fungus, salmonella, listeria and mold. After every batch is prepared, the batch is assay tested again 3 times to make sure there is no E. Coli, fungi, salmonella, listeria and mold. Volhard takes every precaution to make sure the product you receive is a safe and nutritious product!
