YOUR VETERINARIAN SHOULD BE INVOLVED
Your primary care veterinarian is a vital partner in the care of your pet. The medical record (MR) specific to your pet must be sent and reviewed by us before making a dietary recommendation. SERVICES INCLUDED:
A nutrition consultation consists of telephone contact (our expense) and/or email communications to identify the needs of your individual dog or dog family. The canine nutritionist will make a recommendation of the Volhard diet that would provide the healthiest possible solution that fulfills the needs of both you and your dog(s). Your nutrition questions will be answered, and unbiased advice and knowledge will be shared. Follow-up is included, to assure success of the plan we have devised. Depending on the time chosen, that time will be dedicated to you and your dog. Supplements can be recommended where needed for optimal health.
Critical and complex canine disease cases will require longer consultation times. These cases usually require daily or weekly monitoring with the family and/or with the veterinarian until the crisis or adjustment period is over. These cases involve the in depth review of clinical test results, research and the ongoing testing in some cases of the dog in distress. All such cases are welcomed and appropriate time is devoted to the care of these patients. Other projects are possible, and fees will be based upon hourly rates. Call 888-571-2455 for further information. An estimate will be given and invoiced.
Payment for services is due prior to beginning work.

Grady is a 14 year old 20 lb poodle/westie mix and the most handsome little guy you have ever seen! Shelter dog that we adopted when he was 6 and from day one was not a good eater. Over the years we tried everything and he either itched or had soft runny stools or didn't like the food. Always an issue but we tried various foods over the years but nothing ever worked really great. Eventually he really started to slow down - thought he was really on the way out, and was not eating at all...I mean thought he would starve to death - and during routine blood work before a teeth cleaning his ALP (one of the liver enzymes) level was over 1100, up from about 600 the year before. Was actually having seizures. Normal range is up to 212. He was tested for cushings the previous year becasuse 600 was so high but it came back negative. Vet put him on Denarmarin and and we researched foods and spoke to Volhard nutritionist Jen who spent a lot of time with us and gave great input. Ended putting him on NDF2 and after 6 weeks his levels came down to the 600 range again.
Not sure if it was the NDF or the Denamarin, but the combination worked great. Best of all, he loved the food! eats it with no problem. We started with ground turkey (cooked, not raw) and will shift to or add chicken or fish occasionally to mix it up. Aside from eating better and improved liver levels he is MUCH MUCH better. Still sleeps a lot but he generally has MUCH more energy and is so much more alert. Probably not a stretch to say Volhard saved Grady's life and can absolutely say NDF2 improved and extended his life. Great product and expert advice!

During this rainy weekend, Thor and I had to stay indoors and enjoy each others company. I noticed his coat. How shiny and then I realized I didn’t have to vacuum last week because he’s not shedding as much! He is jumping a little more when we play catch and even jumps on the bed with his mom to take a nap with her like he use to. He seems much happier and loves to eat his food now. He use to smell of it several times before finally eating it. Not because he liked it, but because that’s all his mom gave him….:( His anal fistula hasn’t flared up at all this month. I am SOLD!
He goes for his one month recheck with the vet tomorrow for his anal fistula at which time I am telling her about my decision to add krill oil, endurance, and digestive enzymes to his diet in hopes to graduate him to the Volhard diet.
When do you think we can start transitioning him to the Volhard diet? Not wanting to rush as I know it will be a big transition from dry to raw food, but I want him to be even more happy!
Jennifer, I can’t thank you and Jan enough for your guidance on doing this for Thor. Being a novice on dog nutrition, I had no idea! But, I’m reading up on it and educating myself so I can do what’s best for my best friend and companion!

Thank you for taking the time to talk with me recently. I found our chat to be invaluable, and have looked back at my notes several times :)
Annie slowly transitioned to the Volhard rescue diet with cooked ground bison. She had no adverse effects or diarrhea during, and her reflux symptoms seem slightly better (less) already. She hasn't thrown up for 5+ weeks.
